Medical-grade isolated DC-DC converters exceed patient-protection specifications

Recom's latest REM3, REM6 and REM10 medical DC-DC converters are now available from Dengrove Electronic Components. The units are designed for patient-connected applications and exceed the latest IEC 60601-1 (3rd edition) specifications for 2MOPP patient protection. The 3W, 6W and 10W modules feature reinforced insulation for 250VAC working voltage, 5kVAC input-to-output isolation and 8mm creepage and clearance, meeting or exceeding the IEC 60601-1 requirements. In addition, ultra-low patient leakage current of 2µA helps designers meet the lowest limits for medical devices, such as the 0.3mA maximum specified in North American UL 60601-1. Design-in of the modules is simplified due to the convenient DIP24 outline, industry-standard pin-out, wide input-voltage ranges of 2:1 or 4:1, and choice of tightly regulated output voltages from 3.3V to 24V. Single- or dual-output versions are offered in each power rating. Conversion efficiency of up to 89% helps minimise system power consumption and simplify thermal management. The family meets high safety and environmental standards, including the European ErP directive and IEC 60950-1. All units carry the IECEE CB test certificate, thereby simplifying international product certifications.
