Compact high-capacity capacitors suit energy-harvesting applications

11-03-2015 | Farnell element14 | Passives

Farnell element14 now offers the Vishay hybrid storage 196 HVC ENYCAP capacitors which are compact devices facilitating high-energy storage. They have the industry’s highest energy density (13Ws/g) and high capacitance (up to 90F), says the company. Ideal as a storage device for energy harvesting, the capacitors are an alternative to rechargeable backup batteries as they can hold 70% of their charge for as long as a month. They support voltages ranging from 1.4V (single cell) to 2.8V / 4.2V / 5.6V / 7.0V / 8.4V (multiple cells) and are available as stacked through-hole (STH, radial), surface mount flat (SMF) and lay-flat configurations (LPC) with wire and connectors. Their low profile (2.5mm) means they are ideal for portable and compact designs.
