Step-down regulators feature novel adaptive ON-time control architecture

Featuring a novel adaptive ON-time control architecture, Micrel MIC28303 synchronous step-down regulator modules are now stocked by Mouser. The 50V 3A power modules combine a DC-DC controller, power MOSFETs, bootstrap diode, bootstrap capacitor, and an inductor - all in a single package. The modules feature a 4.5V to 50V supply range, with adjustable output voltage from 0.9V to 24V (limited by duty cycle). The modules can supply up to 3A of output current and are adjustable down to 0.8V with a 'guaranteed' accuracy of ±1%. The ON-time control architecture allows for a constant switching frequency, programmable between 200kHz and 600kHz. The MIC28303-1 module uses Micrel's HyperLight Load architecture for improved efficiency at light loads. The MIC28303-2 module uses Micrel's Hyper Speed Control for ultra-fast transient response. Both modules offer a full suite of protection features, including under voltage lockout, internal soft-start, fold-back current limit, 'hiccup' mode short-circuit protection, and thermal shutdown. The devices feature low-radiated emissions, power-good signaling, and a junction temperature range of -40C to +125C, making them ideal for industrial and medical applications, says the company.
