Alpha Micro has announced availability of the U-blox TOBY-L2 cellular module
range - a complete and cost-efficient 4G-LTE/3G/2G multi-mode solution
offering up to 150/50 Mb/s download/upload rates for data and voice,
covering up to six LTE bands, up to five WCDMA/DC-HSPA+ bands, and four
GSM/EGPRS bands in variants for all continents.
Ideal for consumer fixed-wireless terminals, mobile routers and remote video
streaming applications, the TOBY-L2 offers many enhancements in
functionality and connectivity over the TOBY-L1 series, including dual-stack
IPv4/6, embedded TCP/IP, UDP/IP and SSL, and the ability to upgrade the
firmware via USB. The ISO 16750 qualification provides for a wide variety of
in-vehicle infotainment applications, and the very small form-factor and
high-speed data rate makes the TOBY-L2 the perfect choice for remote
wireless applications in security monitoring, digital signage and mobile
health. Network jamming detection and GPS TOBY AssistNow software
integration means that time taken locating and fixing failing equipment in
the field can be kept to an absolute minimum.
The compact, lightweight design (less than 7g) and rugged operational
temperature range (-40C to +85C), combined with individual production
inspection and testing, gives very high-quality performance and reliability
in the harshest industrial environments. Where backwards-compatibility is
required for 3G and 2G networks, the TOBY-L2 follows the same 152-pin LGA
form-factor (25mm x 36mm x 2.6mm) for simple migration from existing U-blox
W-CDMA, CDMA, GSM modules, maximising customer investment in existing
hardware and software. USB drivers for Windows 6-8 and RIL software for
Android are freely available, says the company.
