RS Components is shipping the official Raspberry Pi 3 Starter Kit from the Raspberry Pi Foundation. This new bundle of products offers budding developers and makers an ideal start to exploring, programming and experimenting with any Raspberry Pi project within just a few minutes, in the classroom, in the lab or at home. The official starter kit has everything users need to be up and running quickly and easily – just by plugging in a few cables, attaching it to a TV or monitor, and turning it on.
The kit includes the latest credit-card-sized single-board computer, which delivers significantly enhanced performance due to the powerful 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 quad-core processor. It also includes wireless connectivity directly on the board to offer integrated Bluetooth and wireless LAN connectivity as standard for IoT development projects so that connected projects can be produced far quicker and easier.
The included micro-SD card is pre-installed with NOOBS software, an operating system that provides a different but familiar desktop with program icons, and a menu, which lists all the available software for the board. Upon boot-up, connecting the board to the Internet via an Ethernet cable to a broadband router provides a display from which users can choose an available operating system, including Pidora, OpenElec, RaspBMC, RISC OS, Arch and Linux. The Raspbian OS will be installed for setups without an Ethernet connection.
The starter kit also includes other official Pi products including a red and white Pi case, a white USB mouse and keyboard, and a white USB power supply with interchangeable heads for use in the UK, Europe, US and Australia. It also contains a 1m white HDMI2.0 cable and the ‘Adventures in Raspberry Pi’ book, which has nine fun projects to inspire users to design and build their own inventions and innovations.
