Small outline passive matrix OLED displays do not need backlighting

Diamond Electronics has announced the availability of the latest Winstar small outline, passive matrix OLED displays. The range is comprised of four sizes of module, 0.49”, 0.66”, 0.71” and 0.84” all available with white or sky blue characters. Typical applications include wearable electronics, medical devices, handheld instrumentation and portable consumer goods including E-cigarettes, MP3 players, voice recorder pen and personal health monitors. All the products in this new range are of ultra-thin, COG format and are self-emitting, requiring no backlighting. In addition to being lightweight and having very low power consumption, they also feature exceptionally wide viewing angles.
