Power supplies offer class-leading density for compact medical and industrial applications

Murata now offers the PQU650 series of open-frame, 650W-rated AC/DC power supplies. The series provides what is claimed to be the highest power-density product on the market, with forced-air and convection-cooled ambient ratings. The power supplies provide several standard features comprising wide output voltage adjustment range, auxiliary power rails and a high transient capability, all at a competitive price.

Measuring only 6" x 4" by 1U high, the power supplies take a universal AC input voltage range of 90VAC to 264VAC. Using the latest LLC topology produces world-class efficiency levels of up to 95%, the series sustains a high 450W convection-cooled rating. This indicates there are no system fan demands for applications up to 450W at ambient temperatures as high as 50C, and with as little as 300LFM forced air-cooling, the achievable output power rises to 650W at an ambient temperature of 50C. A useful peak output ‘power boost’ rating of 800W is achievable for up to 30 seconds to enable initialisation of inductive and capacitive loads.

The device is ideal for industrial and medical applications where there are size limitations and for ‘no fan’ applications where noise and maintenance are crucial, and also for employment in transient load applications that need the PSU to produce high power for short durations.
