New eMMC provides robust Flash storage for industrial applications

SMART Modular Technologies has launched a new BGAE440 family of eMMC products under the brand name, DuraFlash. The brand is the company’s designation for durable Flash memory solutions that are constructed to higher standards to provide the durability and reliability demanded in industrial embedded market segments.

The eMMC product family is created for industrial embedded applications and complies with JEDEC eMMC v5.1 specifications. The family is offered in 153-ball 11.5mm x 13mm and 100-ball 14mm x 18mm standard BGA packages. Capable of withstanding harsh operating environments, developing with the product family protects against extreme hot and cold temperature ranges, excessive vibration, high humidity, gradient change, Salt Fog and dust as well as exposure to sulfur dioxide.

The eMMC product also addresses the demand for soldered down Flash storage in embedded systems. Unlike typical eMMC products that are appropriate for consumer applications, such as mobile phones and tablet PCs, the eMMC is created particularly for industrial embedded computing applications for various markets such as aerospace, mobile base stations, security devices, pipeline inspection equipment, medical diagnostic devices as well as many others.
