Sensirion offers the new ultra-low power humidity sensor SHT40 for battery-driven applications and high-volume consumer electronics. The SHT40 is part of the company's fourth generation of humidity sensors – the SHT4x series.

The sensor provides an excellent price-performance ratio on the global market. Tape and reel packaging combined with its suitability for standard SMD assembly processes make the device ideal for high-volume applications.

The sensor builds on a new and optimised CMOSens chip providing ultra-low power consumption and industry-leading accuracy specifications. The company's CMOSens technology offers a full sensor system on a single chip, with a fully calibrated digital I2C fast-mode plus interface. The sensor includes operating ranges from 0 to 100% RH and from -40C to 125C with accuracies of ±1.8% RH and ±0.2C. With the extended supply voltage range from 1.08V to 3.6V and 400nA average current, the device is ideally suited for mobile and battery-driven applications. The extremely small size in a robust DFN housing allows integration into challenging designs while satisfying the highest reliability demands, as demonstrated by the JEDEC JESD47 qualification.

“As Sensirion has been setting the industry standard in humidity sensing for more than 20 years, the SHT4x strongly benefits from our vast application expertise. Our ambitions for the fourth generation are, therefore, limitless. They are reflected in the ultra-low power consumption, the unprecedented accuracy and the robust design allowing its use in the harshest environments”, says Maximilian Eichberger, head of product management, Humidity and Temperature Sensors, at Sensirion.
