Variohm EuroSensor has released a new variant of its ETP21 series temperature sensor that satisfies the demanding specifications needed by the railway industry. The device builds upon the pedigree of its EPT21 sensors with a reputation for value, long life and high performance over many industries, including autosports, heavy engineering and hydrogen production. Based on the PT100 measurement element and with 17-4PH stainless steel wetted components, the EPT21R has been tested for compliance with EN 61373 standards for shock and vibration and electromagnetic compatibility to EN 50121-3-2 and salt mist test according to EN ISO 9227-NSS. With a measurement range of -40C to +125C and a maximum static operating pressure up to 160 bar, the sensor has a 4 ... 20mA output and a total error of +/-2% FSO over a temperature range of -20C to +85C.

The new ETP21R offers a robust 22mm diameter stainless-steel housing with sealing to IP6X9K (EN 606029), a G1/4A-E pressure connection and an M12x1 round electrical connector for simple installation for railway rolling stock and apparatus applications. As well as shock and vibration ratings of 1000g/11msec and 16g peak/20 to 2000Hz respectively, the device's wide supply voltage range (min. 14.4V, max. 33.6V), short-circuit and reverse voltage protection as well as a 100MOhm isolation resistance at 710VDC ensures reliable and trouble-free operation.
