500W DC-DC converter for transportation and rail vehicle applications

With the RMD500 series, RECOM offers 500W DC-DC converters designed for the specific requirements of transportation and especially rail vehicles. The series is now available from Rutronik. The 4:1 input voltage range can cover input voltages from 43VDC to 137,5VDC (nominal 72V resp. 110V) in a range with isolated and regulated 24V output. That is achievable due to a reinforced isolation system.

The converter offers a constant and high efficiency of 95% and is parallel connectable in n+1 redundancy. The baseplate mounting enables a wide operating temperature range -40C to +70/85C for class OT4+ST1&ST2. That offers full power across the complete temperature range with no need for derating or additional fans.

Input reverse polarity protection, inrush current limiting, remote control, 10ms hold-up time, and output O-ring diode round out the functionality of this compact and fully railway-ready plug-and-play device.

The device is EN62368-1-marked and fully tested to the latest EN50155 railroad standards, including all associated ones. The device targets applications including traction and propulsion, drive systems, data loggers, lighting, electrical containers and cabinets, HVAC, brake and door systems, train control monitoring systems, safety systems, WLAN systems, radio communications and displays including for passenger information.
