Vision Research now offers its Phantom T4040 high-speed camera, exceeding the frame rate abilities of other high-resolution, high-speed cameras and providing an updated platform that is 50% lighter than the nearest equivalent model. The camera offers a ground-breaking back side illuminated 2560 x 1664 sensor that maximises light sensitivity with a peak quantum efficiency of over 90%.
Thanks to its 4Mpx sensor, the camera has advantages over others with traditional 1Mpx sensors and can capture fine detail and movement over bigger areas. For these reasons, the device is ideal for applications such as material impact tests. It improves the accuracy needed for tracking elements and debris after the collision. It is ideal for explosives research, including particle trajectories. Thanks to its EDR feature, the camera is able to capture key data contained in the bright flash. It is also ideal for particle imaging, including time-resolved particle image velocimetry. Its high resolution enhances data accuracy when processed into a 3D model, and small objects. The device's 9.27-micron pixel size is excellent for subjects needing high magnification. Distinct areas of study include insect wing behaviour and computer microchip development.
Standout features of the camera include EDR, which mitigates the impacts of bright flashes, and binning mode, which extends its use as a 1Mpx camera. Binning mode blends pixels to attain 39,000fps at 1Mpx and up to 444,000fps at the extremely usable resolution of 1280 x 64. The device also includes on-camera controls, video outputs and CineMag capabilities, all of which make it excellent for remote, standalone operation.
