Overvoltage protection in three new self-control fuses

30-06-2023 | Rutronik | Passives

The new Self-Control Fuse (SCF) series from EATON Bussmann now joins the Rutronik range. The battery protection with three terminals is ideal for surface mounting due to its flat and compact design and is excellent for single-cell and multi-cell battery packs. The SCFs protect against overcurrent and overcharging. This makes them predestined for various uses in consumer, computer, power, industrial, home appliance, handheld and medical applications, among others. They are offered in 4mm x 3mm for a rated current range of 12A to 22A (SCF4030), 5.4mm x 3.2mm for a rated current range of 12A to 30A (SCF5432) and 9.5mm x 5mm for a rated current of 30A to 45A (SCF9550).

The SCF series has an integrated heating element with fuse for IC/FET triggering capability that reacts quickly to an unexpected cell or pack level overvoltage or overtemperature. The series operates with various current ratings and low internal resistance for high efficiency in lithium-ion battery packs. With this series, Eaton provides one of the most comprehensive portfolios of self-controlling fuses for series connections of up to 24 Lithium-ion battery cells.

The series is RoHS-compliant and halogen-free and offers an easy pairing of rated current and battery cells in a row.

Application examples include e-bikes, robotics, cordless tools; devices with lithium-ion batteries, such as notebooks, smartphones, and tablets; energy storage systems, and POS terminals.
