Eight new sizes in an extremely efficient inductor series

In addition to Würth Elektronik’s five existing package sizes of WE-XHMI SMT power inductors, there are now eight new packages. These compact yet exceptionally efficient inductors feature a high current capacity of up to 56A saturation current and the ability to handle high transient current spikes. This makes them particularly suited to DC-DC converters in power supplies, PoL converters and high-current filters, and industrial computers, mainboards and graphics cards.

The moulded flat wire inductor, once only available in the Power Magnetics product family, now also comes in 4020, 4030, 4040, 5020, 5030, 5050, 7030 and 7070 package sizes. The series is also obtainable in smaller packages, and the 70xx sizes close a gap in the existing portfolio. The new packages help to further optimise the production process, resulting in a notable improvement in the electrical properties RDC, Isat and Ir.

The AEC-Q200-qualified series of inductors can be employed at operating temperatures from -40C to +125C and cover an inductance range from 0.15µH to 33µH with currents up to 56A.

Thanks to very low winding resistance, using the flat wire inductor enhances efficiency and effectiveness. The design as a flat wire coil with a composite core material attains extremely low copper losses and stable behaviour with temperature fluctuations. Moreover, using flat wire decreases the skin effect, as there is a larger surface area with the same cross-section.
