IoT and wearable designs will benefit from small size and reduced power consumption

Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH released a new series of LDO voltage regulators in its ultra-miniature DFN4D package type.

Specifically aimed at miniature applications powered by small-scale batteries, the new family of devices significantly reduces power consumption, thereby increasing the usable lifetime. With demand for battery-powered IoT equipment/modules, communications modules, wearable devices, and other miniature equipment increasing, the new LDO regulators will assist designers in meeting engineers' ever-increasing expectations.

The new TCR3LM series provides a comprehensive line-up of over 30 devices spanning the voltage range of 0.8VDC to 5VDC with an input voltage (VIN) in the range of 1.4VDC to 5.5VDC. Each device can deliver up to 300mA of output current (IOUT).

The new series offers enhanced dropout performance with a typical dropout voltage (VDO) of just 137mV. As the output voltage can be attained with a lower input voltage, the battery drain is decreased.

Also, the load transient response has been improved, improving the output stability when the load fluctuates. The company has achieved a typical transient response of -70mV/+35mV at 2.8V-output, IOUT = 1mA 100mA, while also managing to lower the quiescent current (IB(ON)) to a typical value of just 1.2μA.

The ultra-compact solution is housed in a DFN4D package measuring just 1mm × 1mm × 0.37mm. Small ceramic capacitors can be used on the input and output, further reducing the overall solution size.

Despite their small size, these feature-rich LDO regulators provide overcurrent and overtemperature protection as well as an auto-discharge function.
