Mouser now offers the ST1VAFE6AX biosensor from STMicroelectronics. The device supplies design engineers with next-generation biopotential signal detection and motion tracking for various applications, including heart rate, pulse monitoring, ECG and activity tracking for wearables and portable medical devices.

The biosensor features a vAFE channel to detect biopotential signals and includes a six-axis IMU for motion tracking. The device embeds advanced dedicated features and data processing for motion processing like the finite state machine, sensor fusion low power, adaptive self-configuration, and machine learning core with exportable AI features and filters. The device fully synchronises biopotential and motion sensing for context-aware analysis. The biosensor's compact 2.5mm × 3mm × 0.71mm footprint makes it excellent for space-constrained applications.

Application development with the biosensor is supported by the STEVAL-MKI242A adapter board. The board features a pre-mounted ST1VAFE6AX sensor and can be plugged directly into a standard DIL24 socket, allowing fast system prototyping and device evaluation directly within the user's own application. The adapter supplies the complete ST1VAFE6AX pinout and comes ready-to-use with the needed decoupling capacitors on the VDD and VDDIO power supply lines. A 3.5mm jack is also supplied on the board for use with an ECG cable. The STEVAL-MKI242A adapter can also be used with the STMicroelectronics STEVAL-MKI109V3 motherboard, the STEVAL-MKBOXPRO programmable wireless box kit, or the X-NUCLEO-IKS4A1 motion MEMS and environmental sensor expansion board.
