Advanced SiC photodiodes for deep UVC detection launched

05-08-2024 | Marktech Optoelectronics | Industrial

Marktech Optoelectronics has introduced its latest innovation: SiC photodiodes designed for deep UVC detection. These photodiodes display visible light or solar blind characteristics, making them perfect for monitoring 235nm and 255nm far or deep UVC LEDs.

These new UVC detectors are available in two hermetic package types: TO-46 metal can – part number MT12-001, and ATLAS hermetic SMD package - MTSM1057SMF2-046. The hermetic characteristics of TO-can and the company's proprietary ATLAS package protect the compound semiconductor photodiode chip from the damaging effects of moisture, oxygen, gases, and other vapours, ensuring consistent performance over a long lifetime. SiC is covalently bonded and has much more instrinsic temperature stability compared to silicon. They can be operated up to 170C.

These SiC photodiodes have minimal response at 400nm, less than 1% of peak response, so the Si PDs are insensitive to visible, IR, and solar light, ensuring accurate detection of UVC light in diverse environmental conditions. The SiC material allows exceptional sensitivity and precision in detecting deep UVC wavelengths, enhancing the effectiveness of UVC monitoring systems. Designed for long-term use, these hermetically packaged SiC photodiodes offer robust performance and high environmental degradation resistance.

The devices are ideal for air and surface sterilisation, water purification, and analytical instrumentation; these photodiodes support various critical applications requiring reliable UVC detection.

"These new SiC photodiodes represent a significant advancement in UVC detection technology," said Vince Forte, chief technology officer at Marktech Optoelectronics. "Their ability to accurately detect 235nm and 255nm UVC wavelengths without interference from visible or infrared light positions them as a crucial component in any UVC monitoring system."

Marktech Optoelectronics continues to set the standard in optoelectronic innovation by providing advanced solutions that address the complex needs of today's design engineering professionals. The new SiC photodiodes are now available, offering superior performance and reliability for various UVC applications.
