Reliable busbars portfolio supports the energy transition

TTI Europe now stocks Molex busbars to support the design of next-generation BESS and meet society's growing demand for energy storage capacity.

As private residences and e-mobility sectors transition to renewable energy sources, more energy storage solutions are needed, and the company continues to support new energy development.

"To meet Europe's target of achieving 45% energy generation from renewable sources by 2030, 187 gigawatts of energy storage capacity are required, and by 2050, the region will need 600 gigawatts," says Markus Lorenz, director of Industry Marketing at TTI Europe. "The BESS market across Europe has been growing steadily to meet this demand. For example, in Germany, the residential BESS market grew by 150% in 2023, with approximately 1.2 million systems now installed nationwide."

Busbars are the backbone of reliable power distribution and a critical component in BESS. High-quality Molex busbars, offered in a range of shapes and sizes, can be specified to improve the performance of battery storage solutions and reduce energy loss.

The company stocks a wide range of Molex busbars, including rigid busbars available in copper and aluminium and sheet, bar and rod form options, supplying an effective and efficient means of delivering high power. Braided busbars are also obtainable, offering increased flexibility. The portfolio includes round and flat braided versions, insulated and uninsulated options, and flex/rigid combined solutions to best fit the individual needs of each application. For any required custom modification or design, the company's technical design engineers – TDMs – are available across Europe to support individual customer requests.

Molex laminated busbars, providing alternating layers of conductor and insulation to provide low characteristic impedance and improved heat dissipation, are also part of the company's range. These busbars offer a space-saving solution, enabling designers to minimise space requirements in their applications while also being easy to install. The parts are provided with tin, nickel or silver plating and insulation materials, including Mylar, Nomex, Rigid Plastic, and FR4 laminate.

Also, the company stocks Molex's Coeur CST Interconnect System for easily connecting busbars. This system delivers up to 200A of current through three diameter sizes (3.4mm, 6mm, and 8mm) and provides a wide range of configurations to connect busbars, PCBs and cables via press-fit, weld, and screw attach methods, depending on busbar thickness or space constraints. The system also offers a unique float capability, providing up to 1mm of float to mitigate pin-to-socket axial misalignment when mating busbar-to-busbar or busbar-to-PCB.
