RECOM has released new cost-effective DC-DCs with the highest level of medical isolation in through-hole and SMD formats. The REM2A and REM4A series, rated 2W and 4W, respectively, offer 'reinforced' 5kVAC/1 min isolation and a 2MOPP rating at 250VAC with more than 8mm creepage and clearance. The parts also suit B, BF, and CF patient connect applications with low 2µA leakage current.
The DC-DCs are available with 2:1 inputs: 4.5-12V, 9-18V, 18-36V, or 36-75VDC. Fixed, fully regulated DC outputs are: 5V, 9V, 12V, 15V, 24V, +/-5V, +/-12V, and +/-15VDC, also 3.3V in the REM2A series. The REM2A operates over ambient temperatures of -40C to +90C, while the REM4A operates from -40C to +80C, both without derating at nominal inputs. With airflow or derating, the parts operate to +105C ambient.
Full protection is provided against input undervoltage, output overcurrent, overvoltage, and short circuits. An on/off control is also provided to shut down the DC-DCs for energy-sensitive applications.
Certifications held include IEC/EN/ANSI/AAMI 60601 3rd edition for medical safety and IEC/EN/UL62368-1 for IT and multimedia applications. Operation to 5000m is specified in pollution degree 2 environments. The company's renowned quality is built-in, and the 2W and 4W ranges achieve over 5Mhrs MTBF at 25C, GB, according to MIL-HDBK-217F.
"These DC-DCs are an economical solution when the highest grade of isolation is needed in medical and other safety-critical applications, especially when space is constrained, and temperatures are high," comments Matthew Dauterive, MSc. DC-DC product manager of RECOM.
