Megawatt charging system plug assembly and inlet for commercial and off-road EVs

TTI IP&E – Europe now stocks Excel|mate Megawatt Charging System (MCS) plug assemblies and matching inlets from Amphenol Industrial that support super-fast charging of commercial and off-road EVs. Delivering up to 2.25MW, the new rated combo plugs are built in compliance with IEC TS 63379 and IEC 61851-23-3 standards.

Extending the company’s high-voltage coupler outlet (HVCO) series, the Excel|mate charging coupler (CC) combo plug is available for 350A (HVCO4MN001LXXXX) and 1500A (HVCO4M1001LXXXX) with a working voltage up to 1500V. These combo plugs support Megawatt DC charging and provide an ambient temperature range of -40C up to +55C, with current derating when the working temperature extends beyond +100C.

Utilising Amphenol’s Radsok technology, the high-current contacts within the plug have been tested to maintain low contact resistance above 20,000 mating cycles with an IP44 rating, allowing OEMs to provide extended charge cycle warranties. The liquid cooling system comprises one feed pipe and two outlet pipes working at a coolant pressure of between 0 bar and 7 bar. The device inlet is rated at 1000A with a natural cooling copper bar, and Amphenol is developing a liquid-cooled version, which increases the current rating to 3000A.

“We are excited to be stocking Amphenol’s Excel|mate MCS combo plugs, enabling super-fast charging of large battery EVs,” says Dermot Byrne, director of Industry Marketing Transportation, TTI Europe. “Compared to the fastest current charging standard (CCS), which allows up to 375kW, Amphenol’s MCS combo plugs deliver up to 2.25MW – a game-changer for e-mobility in heavy-duty transportation.”
