New 64-Bit MPU enables advanced and secure edge AI applications

18-11-2024 | Mouser Electronics | Semiconductors

Mouser now stocks the STM32MP25 MPU from STMicroelectronics. These industrial-grade 64-bit solutions are for secure Industry 4.0/5.0 and advanced edge computing applications that need high-end multimedia capabilities, such as factory automation, AI, machine vision, smart homes, smart cities, and infrastructure.

The MPUs are based on a high-performance single or dual-core Arm Cortex-A35 64-bit RISC core operating up to 1.5GHz. The devices also embed a Cortex-M33 32-bit RISC core operating at up to 400MHz frequency. In addition, there is a GPU, an NPU, and a VPU. Depending on processor loading and application demands, AI workloads can run on the CPU, GPU, or NPU for optimal performance and energy efficiency. The high efficiency of these MPUs permits system designs to go without active cooling, gaining advantages such as smaller size, silent operation, greater reliability, and decreased power consumption. The 3D GPU supports up to 1080p displays, and the powerful multimedia features include a full-HD video pipeline with parallel LVDS and DSI interfaces. Together with a MIPI CSI-2 camera interface with ISP, these improve support for cutting-edge machine-vision applications.

The MPUs include a wide range of interfaces, including up to three Gigabit Ethernet ports with a two-port switch and support for Ethernet TSN. There are also PCIe Gen2, USB 3.0, and up to three CAN-FD interfaces that ease integration in various communication and control applications.

The MPU devices leverage ST's proprietary secure hardware, anti-tamper controls, protected firmware, and secure provisioning, working with Arm's TrustZone architecture to keep sensitive data and keys secret.

The STM32MP257F-EV1 evaluation board, also available from Mouser, provides a complete demonstration and development platform for the STM32MP25 MPUs. It features an onboard debugger/programmer with a portfolio of connection and expansion options, allowing the user to test the STM32MP25's capabilities in a wide range of applications.
