Battery protection IC transforms automotive safety backup power systems

17-01-2025 | ABLIC | Power

ABLIC has launched the S-19161A/B, enabling automotive manufacturers to miniaturise backup power systems significantly. Operating at 125C, this IC enables vehicle manufacturers to replace multiple nickel hydride batteries with a single lithium battery in emergency backup power systems.

When the main power supply fails, conventional automotive backup power systems need multiple nickel hydride batteries to maintain emergency functions. The new device's innovative protection features allow the use of a single lithium battery, delivering the same functionality in a more compact form factor.

The IC operates across an industry-leading temperature range of -40C to 125C, exceeding conventional 85C limits. It delivers industry-leading overcharge detection accuracy of ±15mV with three-level discharge overcurrent protection.

Designed for e-Call systems and TCUs, the S-19161A/B meets PPAP requirements and is undergoing AEC-Q100 Grade 1 certification for automotive IC quality standards.

This advancement supports the automotive industry's push toward miniaturisation and more efficient designs.

Application Examples include lithium-ion rechargeable battery packs,

Lithium polymer rechargeable battery packs, smart Key, and backup Power System.
