Epishine and NGK Insulators Ltd have announced their partnership aiming to further strengthen the energy harvesting Eco system. By combining Epishine’s innovative indoor solar cells with NGK’s advanced EnerCera battery technology, together they aim to push the boundaries of sustainable energy.

This partnership unites the strengths of the companies to meet the increasing demand for efficient, sustainable, and adaptable energy solutions. Epishine’s thin, flexible solar cells, designed for indoor environments, pair seamlessly with NGK’s EnerCera batteries. EnerCera’s low leakage current and high-power density greatly boost the efficiency of energy harvesting systems, ensuring that energy captured from indoor light is stored effectively. Moreover, EnerCera’s semi-solid-state design improves safety and reliability, minimising the risks associated with conventional battery technologies, such as leakage and overheating.

The collaboration also capitalises on the unique form factors of the EnerCera batteries and Epishine’s organic solar cells. The thin, bendable designs of these products provide unique integration opportunities, particularly in compact, portable, and wearable devices where innovative design and performance are key. Also, the compatibility of NGK’s SMT further widens the range of electronic devices that can benefit from this combined solution, making it excellent for applications where space-saving and high performance are paramount.

“Partnering with NGK is a strategic move that further broadens our eco-system and aligns with our mission to empower the next generation of self-powered, sustainable electronic devices,” said Niklas Forsgren, FAE director at Epishine. “Their EnerCera battery technology is not only a perfect complement to our indoor solar cells but also opens up new possibilities for innovation in energy harvesting.”

NGK shares this enthusiasm for the partnership. Mr. Iwao Ohwada, vice president, general manager, Battery Application, DS Business Development, Corporate NV Creation at NGK, added, “Our collaboration with Epishine represents a joint focus in the energy harvesting sector. The integration of NGK’s EnerCera batteries with Epishine’s solar technology provides a robust and scalable solution that meets the diverse needs of advanced electronic devices, ensuring both efficiency and sustainability.”
