Fixed bullets deliver more board-to-board connections

06-01-2025 | SV Microwave | Industrial

SV Microwave has increased its offering of fixed-length SMP and SMPM RF bullets to provide even more sizes to configure a board-to-board connection. As system designs get more complex, the need for smaller form factor, higher density, and higher frequency bullets also increases. As such, these bullets begin at a nominal length of 0.265" (SMP) and 0.188" (SMPM). These further lengths are effective when integrating a board-to-board RF solution.

SMP fixed and spring bullets can be useful in applications where multiple B2B interconnects must mate simultaneously. For the bullet to mate successfully without crashing, the loose end of the bullet must hit the 'target' within the acceptable range.

Anatomy of a board-to-board RF connection

A board-to-board RF connection transmits an RF signal between two parallel RF-printed circuit boards using RF connectors and bullets.

These fixed bullets offer a small footprint and are available at various lengths. They offer a lower insertion loss than spring bullets. The SMP has a DC of 40GHz, and the SMPM has a DC of 65GHz. The electrical impedance is 50-Ohms, providing a mating cycle of SB 500 and FD 100. The device's temperature rating covers -65C to +165C.

Typical applications include board-to-board RF solutions, defence and aerospace applications, and are ideal for large-scale blind mate arrays.
