Non-reflective black-plated RF interconnect for harsh and covert applications

17-10-2022 | Amphenol | Industrial

Amphenol RF has introduced a black zinc-cobalt plating option for various radio frequency connectors and coaxial adapters to extend the versatility of current product designs. These interconnects are created for performance and manufactured with durable materials. This alternate plating delivers up to 48 hours of corrosive resistance to salt spray exposure and makes these RF interconnects perfect for highly demanding land, sea and airborne environments.

The black zinc-cobalt alloy is RoHS and REACH-compliant and created to be non-reflective for covert applications such as defence communication equipment. This is particularly important to the safety of defence and emergency personnel. These black-plated connectors and adapters are offered in waterproof IP67-rated configurations, allowing them to maintain excellent RF performance even through temporary submergence. Black plating is a perfect choice for applications including precision positioning systems, radar receivers, surveillance equipment and drones employed to avoid enemy detection.

The new black plating joins the growing portfolio of plating options, including tin nickel plating that protects for up to 720 hours of salt spray exposure. Alternate plating enables engineers to utilise existing RF interconnects in new and different applications to satisfy more specific design needs.
