Polymer tantalum chip capacitors offer improved high-temperature performance

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc has released a new Automotive Grade series of vPolyTan surface-mount polymer tantalum moulded chip capacitors. Created to provide enhanced performance in high temperature, and high humidity operating conditions, the AEC-Q200 qualified Vishay Polytech T51 series supplies lower ESR, lower voltage derating, and a benign failure mode while sustaining higher volumetric efficiency than conventional tantalum capacitors. Also, these technological advantages set this technology above MLCC and aluminium capacitors in a comparable capacitance range.

Provided in the compact D (EIA 7343-31) and V (EIA 7343-20) case sizes, the devices supply a wide capacitance range from 6.8µF to 330µF over voltage ratings from 2.5V to 35V and a capacitance tolerance of ±20%. Offering a highly conductive polymer cathode system, the capacitors provide ultra-low ESR from 120mOhm down to 40mOhm at +25C.

Offering a robust design for harsh environments, the series devices supply high-temperature operation to +125C – with voltage derating above +105C – and a high-temperature load time to 2000 hours. Combined with a ripple current to 2.37A, the capacitors are ideal for decoupling, smoothing, and filtering in switch mode and POL power supplies for automotive ADAS, infotainment, and other in-vehicle electronic systems.

Providing lead (Pb)-free terminations, the series is RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green.
