The WD range, from Carnhill Transformers, is based on more than 30 years’ experience of the suppression of phase-angle light dimmers, which has made Almag one of the largest manufacturers of dimmer chokes. The range of rise-times and inductances for each current rating allows the chokes to cover all dimmer requirements, from straight EMC compliance through to high rise-time TV and film studio dimmers. All types use powder toroidal cores, for optimum high frequency suppression and low flux-leakage.
Current rating are determined by thermal considerations, assuming good convection cooling, and should be adjusted upwards or downwards according to the actual cooling conditions in the customer's equipment. The powder cores used have a "soft" saturation, which means that they do not have the magnetically limited current ratings that apply to laminated chokes.
To assist with mounting, many chokes in this series are available with optional bottom potting in resin, with a central mounting hole.
