CDM Electronics has announced the availability of semi-custom SAFER (Smoke and Fire Exposure Reducing) Cable Assembly Series for RF, Ethernet (RJ45), and power applications. The low-smoke zero-halogen (LSZH) cable assemblies are intended for spaces where large amounts of cables are in close proximity to people or sensitive electronic equipment, and anywhere PVC’s combustive toxicity is restricted by fire code. Their low-smoke properties reduce the amount and density of smoke to make it easier for occupants to exit a space in the event of a fire, while their zero-halogen properties reduce toxicity and corrosivity that can harm buildings, electronic equipment, and metallic structures. The series is commonly used in mass transit, airports, commercial aircraft, submarines and ships, telecommunications/central office facilities, museums, and designated historic structures. The semi-custom cable assemblies are designed to help OEMs accelerate time-to-market while minimizing the costs associated with designing a fully custom assembly. They are provided standard in the most popular configurations, in lengths ranging from one to 25 feet, and are overmoulded for added safety and durability. Assemblies meet all applicable CMR, UL/NEC, CSA and NFPA safety requirements, and may be ordered in prototype and production quantities. Fully customized SAFER cable assemblies are also offered. The company’s RF jumper assemblies are manufactured using either Times Microwave LMR FR low-smoke, zero-halogen low loss cable, or Times Microwave Mil-Spec LLSB low-smoke zero-halogen flexible low loss cable, which is engineered for aerospace and shipboard applications. The jumper assemblies are supplied with assorted Times Microwave standard connector interfaces, including BNC, N-Type, SMA, and TNC. The Ethernet assemblies are preconfigured with straight, left-facing or right-facing RJ45 connectors to meet applications’ safety and space parameters. The power assemblies are terminated by standard NEMA 5-15 and an IEC 60320 C13 receptacles suitable for nearly all computers and peripheral devices. The semi-custom series is 100% American-made in the company’s ISO 9001:2008 and UL Listed facility by J-STD-001 and IPC-620 certified operators. Most assemblies are RoHS-Compliant.
