The gen4-IoD (Internet of Displays) series from 4D Systems, available from RS Components, is a range of WiFi enabled touchscreen LCD displays that provide a compact and easy to integrate solution for human-machine interface (HMI) applications.
The processing and WiFi capability is provided by the Espressif ESP8266 SoC. The device can utilise the on-board ceramic chip antenna, or an external antenna via a U.FL connector if desired.
The design of the series makes integrating an HMI display into a final product easy. The display module features a 10-pin ZIF socket to provide an easy connection to an application or motherboard, removing wiring headaches. If space is at a premium the connected board can sit flush on the back of the module, as the display circuitry fits comfortably within the mounting base to maintain a slim profile. A micro-SD card connector provides optional multimedia storage and data logging capabilities.
The displays are programmed using the intuitive Workshop4, 4D System’s IDE that provides multiple development environments and an extensive library of graphics and touch functions. Alternatively the Arduino IDE can also be used.
