High side protector for single-cell Li-ion and Li-polymer batteries

The bq2980 device from Texas Instruments provides a primary battery cell protection for 1s battery pack by open CHG or DSG FETs at fault conditions. The device family affords a wide range of undervoltage and overvoltage threshold range, covering various Li-ion chemistries. The device monitors across an external sense resistor for current protection. The family has an internal temperature sensor to give overtemperature protection. The CTR pin in the device can be configured to override the FET driver by host control, ideal for creating a system reset or shutdown function. Alternatively, the CTR pin can be configured to attach an external PTC for FET overtemperature protection as well as the internal die temperature sensor.
