RS Components has launched a new RS Pro low-cost and high-performance infrared temperature sensor. Available at a very attractive price, important features of the device include its remarkably small size – 31mm diameter x 30mm high – and side-entry cable, making it perfect for mounting in areas where space is limited. Other features include built-in temperature display, fast 125ms response time and controls.
The device is basically a non-contact thermometer designed to measure temperature from a distance. Infrared thermometers are generally used for a broad variety of temperature monitoring functions, principally in applications where contact sensors are inappropriate, such as when the target object is moving or inaccessible, or if a fast response time is needed. Use of the sensor’s analogue voltage output allows the setting of alarms or connection to a data logger for quality checking.
Although the unit is similar in use to handheld temperature measurement guns, the device is meant as a permanent measurement unit for fixed mounting via a bracket. An example is when installing on manufacturing machinery to measure product temperature, or monitoring the condition of machine parts. Examples include food manufacturing; pharmaceuticals; product temperature measurement in paper and cardboard manufacturing; curing and drying; thermoforming; as well as condition monitoring on mechanical or electrical equipment.
