Multi-band wireless MCU offers low power without compromising range

11-05-2018 | Texas Instruments | Semiconductors

The SimpleLink MCU Platform, from Texas Instruments, has expanded to include Thread, Zigbee and multi-band MCUs with 100% code compatibility, featuring expanded memory and claims to offer the industry's lowest power consumption without comprising range. The CC1312R device is a sub-1GHz wireless MCU targeting Wireless M-Bus, IEEE 802.15.4g, IPv6-enabled smart objects (6LoWPAN), Zigbee, KNX RF, Wi-SUN, and proprietary systems. The device is a member of the CC26xx and CC13xx family of cost-effective, ultra-low power, 2.4GHz and sub-1GHz RF devices. Very low active RF and MCU current, as well as sub-µA sleep current with up to 80KB of RAM retention, provide outstanding battery lifetime and enable operation on small coin-cell batteries and in energy-harvesting applications. The device is a highly integrated, true single-chip solution incorporating a complete RF system and an on-chip DC-DC converter. A one-time integration of the SimpleLink platform enables the user to add any combination of the portfolio’s devices into a design, allowing 100% code reuse when a design requirements change.
