High-reliability DC-DC converters target medical applications

RS Components has a new range of DC-DC converters that aimed at use in medical applications. Providing high reliability and excellent value, the TIM 2 and TIM 3.5 series are manufactured by Traco Power and feature 2W and 3.5W DC-DC converters, respectively. Importantly for medical applications, the converters provide reinforced isolation of up to 5000VAC (RMS). Also, allowing a low leakage current of less than 2µA, the converters are ideal for use in insulating electrical equipment in the BF classification for patient applied parts. The converters are certified to IEC/EN/ES60601-1 3rd edition for 250VAC 2xMOPP up to an altitude of 5000m, and an ISO14971 risk management file is available. Additional approvals include compliance with the latest EMC requirements IEC 60601-1-2 4th edition for medical equipment. Offered in compact DIP-16 or SMD-16 packages, a comprehensive range of series models are available with output voltages of 3.3, 5.0, 9.0, 12, 15, 24, ±12 and ±15VDC. Devices in the series give input voltage ranges of 4.5-12V, 9.0-18V, 18-36V and 36-75VDC. Delivering high efficiencies, the converters also provide operation at environmental temperatures from –40C up to 95C and up to 90C for the TIM 3.5 series. Both series are shock, vibration and thermal shock resistance, according to MIL-STD-810F.
