The TPS650861 multi-rail PMIC from Texas Instruments, combines three controllers to provide power up to 30A using large external FETs, the configurable PMIC offers flexible power solutions for MPSoCs and field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).
The PMIC features three variable-output voltage synchronous step-down converters with DCS-control topology, providing up to 3A of output current. Also, three variable-output voltage synchronous step-down controllers with D-CAP2 topology give scalable output current via external FETs. The device’s small passives allow a small solution size of just 8mm x 8mm, while the DCS-control and D-CAP2 topologies give excellent transient response performance for processor core and system memory rails that have fast load switching.
The PMIC features an I2C interface that maintains a 100kHz standard mode, 400KHz fast mode, and 1MHz fast mode plus. The device highlights three adjustable-output LDO regulators plus an LDO regulator for DDR termination. Two banks of OTP memory allow engineers to program default voltages and sequences. The PMIC offers three load switches with slew rate control, giving up to 300mA of output current with a voltage drop of less than 1.5% of nominal input voltage.
The PMIC’s combination of converters, switches, and LDO regulators makes the devices ideal for programmable logic controllers, video surveillance, motion control, machine vision, and test and measurement applications.
