Current-shunt monitors accurate current measurements in the microamp range

Texas Instruments INA190 Current-Shunt Monitors give overcurrent protection, precision current measurement for system optimisation, or in closed-loop feedback circuits. These voltage-output monitors can sense drops across shunts at common-mode voltages from –0.2V to +40V, independent of the supply voltage. The device features five fixed gain options of 25V/V, 50V/V, 100V/V, 200V/V, or 500V/V. The device provides low input bias current, permitting the use of larger current-sense resistors. This enables accurate current measurements in the microamp range. The dynamic range of the current measurement is extending by use of the low offset voltage in the zero-drift architecture enabling smaller sense resistors with lower power loss. The monitors run from a single 1.7V to 5.5V power supply and draw a maximum of 65µA of supply current when enabled, with only 0.1µA when disabled. Further features include extended operating temperature range of –40C to +125C and a low offset voltage of ±15µV (Max). Applications include notebook computers, cell phones, battery-powered devices, telecom equipment, power management, battery chargers.
