Automotive UFS opens door to more advanced systems and applications

KIOXIA Europe has begun sampling the industry’s first 512GB Automotive UFS JEDEC Version 2.1 embedded memory solution. This automotive UFS supports a broad temperature range (-40C to +105C), meets AEC-Q100 Grade 2 demands and allows the extended reliability demanded by different automotive applications. The 512GB device joins the company’s current lineup of Automotive UFS, which comprises capacities of 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB.

Innovations such as autonomous vehicles, more advanced infotainment systems, telematics, digital clusters, and ADAS offer not only an elevated driver experience but also a bigger need for storage within vehicles.

To satisfy this need for large capacity memory, the company's new memory was developed, which combines the company’s BiCS FLASH 3D flash memory and a controller in a single package. The device provides numerous functions ideal for the needs of automotive applications including Refresh, Thermal Control and Extended Diagnosis. The Refresh function can be employed to refresh data stored in UFS and assists to extend the data’s lifespan. The Thermal Control function shields the device from overheating in the high-temperature circumstances that can happen in automotive applications. Finally, the Extended Diagnosis function supports the host processor to easily understand the device’s status.
