RECOM’s RPX series in QFN package now meets AEC-Q100 Grade 1 requirements.
The RPX QFN-packaged DC-DC converters now have ‘-Q’ variants which meet stringent automotive AEC-Q100 Grade 1 requirements and have been upgraded to incorporate ‘wettable flanks’ for AOI. The devices have an input range up to 36V, and the output may be trimmed from 0.8V to 30V. The RPX-0.5Q variant provides 0.5A, and the RPX-1.5Q offers 1.5A, both in a tiny 3mm x 5mm x 1.6mm leadless, thermally-enhanced QFN package, functioning to over 100C ambient with derating. This is provided by state-of-the-art integration and advanced 3D packaging techniques utilising an over-moulded FCOL construction to supply the lowest package thermal resistance while maintaining manufacturing and low end-product pricing.
The series incorporates the essential inductor and needs just external input and output capacitors, scaled for the customer’s application, for full functionality. On/off control and synchronisation inputs are supplied with a power good output. Soft start, full short circuit, over-current, over-temperature, and input under-voltage protection are included. Due to the FCOL construction, EMI is low, and fixed-frequency operation makes any needed additional filtering easy to implement. Evaluation modules are available for these products.
Matthew Dauterive, DC-DC product manager of RECOM, comments: “The success of our RPX range has spurred us on to further qualify them to automotive standards. This gives our customers extra confidence that they can also be used in other application areas such as industrial or ATE, with high reliability”.
