u-blox has expanded its PointPerfect GNSS augmentation service to the South Korean market from 1 September 2022. It is the first PPP-RTK high-precision positioning solution providing a wide range of applications officially commercialised in the country. The service is accessible through Thingstream, the company's IoT service delivery platform, an enterprise-grade cloud interface that supports billions of messages.

PointPerfect supplies an advanced GNSS augmentation data service developed from the ground up to be ultra-accurate, ultra-reliable, and immediately available. The service enables the fast-growing demand for high-precision GNSS solutions, including autonomous vehicles such as UAV, service robots, machinery automation, micro-mobility, and other advanced navigation applications. Emerging automotive applications that can also benefit from the service include AD and ADAS, lane-accurate navigation, and telematics.

"By bringing u-blox PointPerfect GNSS augmentation service to South Korea, we are taking an important step in Asia towards achieving our strategic objective of globalising our mass-market-focused service," says Franco de Lorenzo, principal product owner, Product Centre Services, at u-blox. "It is the first PPP-RTK service commercialised in South Korea and is designed to lower barriers to adoption and to support scaled-up high precision positioning solutions by reducing time-to-market," he adds. For example, automotive manufacturers in South Korea can now advance their automated driving applications in-country for use in South Korea as well as in the United States and in Europe.

Supplied through mobile internet or L-band satellite signals, it broadcasts on a continental scale to any amount of end devices, providing decimetre-level positioning accuracy and convergence of just seconds. Moreover, adopting the industry-driven SPARTN messaging format together with the lightweight and secure MQTT IoT delivery protocol results in a real-time, bandwidth-optimised, cost-efficient solution ideally suited for mass-market applications. The solution also cooperates smoothly with its positioning and connectivity hardware, delivering a one-stop-shop solution from chip to cloud.
