Space-saving FPC connector features one action insertion and lock

Hirose has expanded its one-action FPC connector family to include the smallest version to date. With a pitch of 0.25mm, height of 0.65mm, and thickness of 0.2mm, the FH82 Series FPC connector provides space-savings that reduce the size of automotive, consumer, medical, smart home, wearable, and other electronic devices. The series is typically used to connect displays and sensors to devices.

Connection is completed by inserting the FPC with patented One Action FH connectors. No need to touch the actuator when connecting prevents actuator damage. The work time and number of operation steps are reduced to a third, allowing for a huge increase in production capacity.

Designed for automatic assembly, the connector features a large taper on the opening to allow smooth insertion. A unique spring design creates a low insertion force and a high retention force, allowing easy operation for both humans and robots.

The rugged single-action lock design delivers the reliability needed in demanding electronic devices that regularly experience shock and vibration.

The connectors are delivered with the actuator closed, stopping breakage during shipment when the actuator is left open, which is a risk with backflip connectors.

"Unlike the conventional connection process of opening the actuator, inserting the FPC and then closing the actuator, connection is completed by just inserting the FPC with One Action FH connectors," said Pete Lais, assistant vice president of Product Management for Hirose Electric Americas. "The single-action lock eliminates the risk of latch damage during the assembly process and greatly improves assembly time."

The series is available in a 14-position, halogen-free and RoHS-compliant version. The company's One Action FH Series includes four other connector versions with heights ranging from 0.9mm to 5.2mm. Shielded versions are also available to fulfil high-speed needs.
