New network interface supports next-generation automotive CAN XL networks

05-09-2024 | Vector | Automotive & Transport

Vector has introduced the VN1641 Network Interface for next-generation automotive CAN XL networks. The device meets the needs of future automotive CAN networks and delivers flexible support for all CAN standards – CAN XL, CAN FD and classic CAN. The interface is excellent for a wide range of tasks, from simple to complex, such as remaining bus simulation, analysis, diagnostics, calibration, and flash programming tasks.

The device supports CAN XL with data rates up to 20Mbit/s with CAN SIC XL transceivers. Error signalling enabled and error signalling disabled modes are also supported. Implementing a hardware-based flash protocol support ensures fast flashing for CAN and CAN FD, making the device a reliable, future-proof partner for CAN applications.

With interchangeable piggies, the device adapts to almost any CAN application, ensuring future compatibility and flexibility. The integrated IO functionality allows synchronous acquisition of signals, CAN/LIN messages, and switch loads up to 500mA via a digital output.

The robust and lightweight interface can be employed in the office, laboratory, test bench, or portable in a car without needing an additional power supply. The device can be connected to the host computer via USB 3.2 Gen1 or Ethernet 1000BASE-T.
