UWB shield redefines location tracking across industries

26-09-2025 | Mouser Electronics | Industrial

Mouser Electronics, Inc. now stock the ABX00131 Stella and the ASX00074 Portenta UWB Shield from Arduino. The UWB shields use ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to enhance precision tracking, indoor navigation, and contactless human interactions. The devices allow IoT innovation across a range of applications, including high-precision RTLS, industrial automation and asset management, smart access control, and medical equipment tracking.

The shields provide superior accuracy for ranging and positioning, including in complex environments. UWB utilises pulse-based signalling to achieve sub-10cm precision and low interference, outperforming conventional positioning technologies such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS. UWB also features an enhanced PHY that supports cryptography, random number generation, and other advanced security features.

The ABX00131 Stella features a Nordic Semiconductor nRF52840 Multi-Protocol 2.4GHz SoC and Truesense DCU040 module, delivering outstanding real-time tracking accuracy. The device integrates with UWB-enabled smartphones and applications, including NXP Trimension App, Apple's Nearby Interaction APIs, and Android's UWB Jetpack library. With a compact design, the ABX00131 Stella brings precision and versatility to indoor navigation, automated safety systems, and location tracking.

The ABX00131 Stella integrates seamlessly with the ASX00074 Portenta UWB, a double-sided 70.1mm x 37.5mm board. The Arduino ASX00074 adds UWB connectivity to the Arduino Portenta C33 SoM, acting as a base station for two-way ranging and RTLS. The ASX00074 Portenta UWB features a Truesense DCU150 UWB module with an NXP Trimension SR150 UWB IC, three embedded PCB antennas, onboard power management, clock control, filters, and peripheral components. The ASX00074 Portenta UWB is ideal for applications that require reliable, real-time location data.
