Vishay Intertechnology, Inc has announced it is releasing a new series of IHPT solenoid-based haptic actuators that are bundled with patent licenses for Immersion Corporation's haptic technology. The bundle streamlines the design-in process for these devices and eradicates the necessity for a separate license to implement haptic effects.
The haptic actuator series uses compact and cost-effective solenoid technology to deliver high-force level HD effects with a drive voltage between 8V and 16V. The first device in the series – the IHPT1411 – provides a force level of up to 120N. Dimensions for the device are 35mm x 35mm x 16mm. Further devices providing a mixture of force levels and sizes will be available in late 2023 to cover a broad range of automotive and commercial applications.
Since the company's IHPT actuators operate off commonly available 12V systems with IC driving circuits, they lower the cost of implementing haptic experiences in a wide range of end products. Applications for the series include LCD touchscreens, touch panels, buttons, rotary knobs, joysticks, and other HMI.
The company offers basic guidelines on mounting and driving the IHPT actuators to create a basic suite of haptic experiences that the user can build on for their specific application.
Due to licensing restrictions, IHPT haptic actuators are unavailable for certain applications, including gaming.
