Automotive FPC/FFC connector supports high-speed data in a small footprint

16-10-2024 | Hirose | Automotive & Transport

Hirose has expanded its FPC/FFC connector family to support MIPI D-PHY (1.5Gbps) and eDP1.3 (5.4Gbps) specifications. With a 0.4mm pitch and a height of only 2mm, the FH75M Series provides high-speed data transmission in a miniature footprint.

Offering high contact reliability in severe environments, the series uses a two-point contact design with two independent springs that supply a wiping action to stop contact failure from dust, dirt and other contaminants. With an operating temperature of up to 125C, the series satisfies extensive heat demands seen in automotive applications. The series FPC connector meets extra automotive needs, including resistance to shock and vibration, hydrogen and sulphur gasses, humidity and corrosion.

The connector uses a flip lock with an FPC tab and housing side catches, providing a high retention force of 51.4N. The simple flip lock design delivers easy FPC insertion and emits a clear tactile click to confirm complete locking. The FPC connector has a user-friendly design, which includes wide tapers that deliver smooth FPC insertion.

“Providing valuable space-savings, the compact FH75M Series meets rugged automotive mechanical requirements, including high-temperature operation and a high-retention force for improved reliability in demanding applications,” said Pete Lais, assistant vice president of product management for Hirose Electric Americas.

The series is commonly used in car navigation, laser radar, millimetre-wave radar, drive recorders, audio displays and in-vehicle camera systems.

The series is available in a 100-position, halogen-free and RoHS-compliant version.
