Bluetooth 5.4 dual-mode modules for low-power Bluetooth transition in IoT apps

Mouser now stocks the Vela IF820 Bluetooth 5.4 dual-mode modules from Laird Connectivity. Meeting the ever-evolving demands of modern Bluetooth applications, the modules marry the benefits of Infineon Technologies' low-power, high-performance AIROC CYW20820 silicon, hardware, software and other tools with Laird's robust, value-added application software, services, certification and support capabilities. The series delivers a full range of dual-mode, flexible modules, adapters and DVKs that allow a single module to cover legacy Classic Bluetooth and migration to Bluetooth LE v5.4 with a single part. The integrated solution helps drive down overall cost, design complexity and risk while improving design flexibility and speeding up time to market for various dual-mode Bluetooth IoT designs.

The modules are the newest addition to the company's Bluetooth portfolio. Aimed at hosted and hostless applications, the series includes multiple small form factor PCB modules to fit any host board footprint. The modules contain an ARM Cortex-M4 core, a 2.4GHz radio and a wide range of MCU peripherals (UART, I2C, SPI, ADC, GPIO, PWM, Programmable Key Scan and more). The series is complemented by low-cost, easy-to-use DVKs and a certified, packaged USB adapter to add Classic Bluetooth and BLE connectivity. Also, Modular FCC, CE, UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed), ISED, RCM, MIC KCC, and Bluetooth SIG global approvals extend to OEM designs with no new testing, delivering faster time to market.

The modules are available now in three hardware options: a 9.3mm x 12.5mm x 2.15mm module with an integrated chip antenna, a 7.5mm x 7.5mm x 2.15mm with an MHF4 connector for an external antenna, or a USB adapter option. The modules are specified at an industrial temperature range of -40C to +85C, and host applications include home automation, asset tracking devices, secure medical peripherals and IIoT sensor networks. The dual-mode modules are also supported by three firmware options (EZ-Serial Firmware, C Code and HCI UART) and a fully-featured evaluation platform that supplies everything required for Bluetooth BR/EDR and Bluetooth LE v5.4 development.
