Nexperia has expanded its analog and logic product portfolio by introducing the load switch product family. Headlining the release is the NPS4053, a high-density IC developed to supply a smaller footprint and superior system protection to help improve system reliability and ensure safety.
Load switches are important components in operating various modern electronic systems. They play a critical role in managing current/voltage in a controlled manner from the source to the load. In a regular power chain, the device is commonly positioned closest to the load for power sequencing, inrush-current control, and shutting off power islands to conserve power, making it particularly advantageous in battery-operated equipment. This monolithic solution simplifies circuit design and has an 85% smaller PCB footprint than a comparative network of discrete components.
The device functions with an input voltage of 2.5V-5.5V and contains a 55mOhm self-protected MOSFET, efficiently managing the power flow to the load. This device incorporates programmable current-limiting circuitry providing precise control of the load current over a range of 110mA to 2.5A with an accuracy of +6%. The device supports 'true' reverse current blocking, delivering robust end-to-end system protection. To further enhance system monitoring, the device includes a fault indicator pin that alerts the host controller of a fault event.
Among other certifications, the device is UL 62368 recognised, and an automotive AEC-Q100-qualified version is also available. The device is provided in leaded and leadless (HWSON 6) packages for flexibility.
The device is optimised for application in portable devices such as notebook computers, desktops, docking stations, and automotive infotainment systems.
