Diodes Incorporated PI4IOE5V6416RQ I/O Expander, available now from Mouser, is a 16-bit general-purpose I/O expander that offers remote I/O expansion for many microcontroller families via the I2C-bus interface.

This I/O expander delivers a simple solution when extra I/Os are required while holding interconnections to a minimum. The I/O expander offers bidirectional voltage-level translation provided through VDD(I2C_bus), while the VDD(I2C_bus) should be connected to the VDD of the external SCL/SDA lines. This I/O expander has an open-drain interrupt INT output pin that goes LOW when the input state of a GPIO port changes from the input-state default register value.

The I/O expander also provides an interrupt masking feature by which the user may mask the interrupt from an individual GPIO port that supports AEC-Q100 (Grade 2) and is lead-free and RoHS compliant.

The I/O expander is ideal for sensors, push buttons, keypads, and battery-powered mobile applications for interfacing.
