Impedance analyser with an extremely wide range released

14-02-2024 | Saelig | Test & Measurement

Saelig Company, Inc. has introduced the Sciospec LCR-1 Impedance Analyser – a PC-based single-channel compact LCR meter that delivers precise two-, three- and four-port measurements in a wide frequency range of 100mHz to 500kHz (optionally extendable to 1MHz or 10MHz) with a deep measurement range for resistance (1mOhm to 1TOhm) capacitance (10fF to 1kF) and inductance (1nH … 1TH) with 0.01% base accuracy.

The analyser measures the electrical properties of passive electronic components or other objects at specific frequencies. It applies an AC voltage or current signal to a component under test and then measures the voltage across the component. By analysing the phase shift and amplitude of the voltage and current waveforms, the device can determine the values of inductance, capacitance, and resistance or combinations thereof. The results are evaluated in terms of equivalent circuit models.

When diagnosing issues in electronic circuits, the device can help identify faulty or out-of-spec components. It lets engineers pinpoint the precise nature of problems related to inductance, capacitance, or resistance issues. It can measure the capacitance and ESR of capacitors, which is crucial for selecting the right components in circuits involving timing, filtering, and energy storage. Real-life components also include parasitic components (both capacitance and inductance). Choosing the right resistor for a given application is essential in more demanding electronic designs – particularly when working at higher frequencies or low or high resistance values. The device can be employed for material testing, particularly in industries where materials with specific electrical properties are needed, for example, in the automotive industry, when testing materials are used in sensors and actuators. In educational settings and research laboratories, the device can be a helpful tool for teaching and conducting electrical circuits and components experiments.

The analyser comes with PC-based software for automated measurements and analysis using an intuitive, easy-to-use graphical interface, with up to four parameters displayed simultaneously. Automatic ranging, four adjustable presets for storing measurement parameters, and manual trigger mode are all provided. Other settings include port configuration, integration time, averaging, compensation, etc. Housed in a compact (4.4” x 8.4” x 2.3”), lightweight (2.2lbs) sturdy case, the device is extremely easy to set up and provides direct access to presets for easy day-to-day use. It is compatible with various test adapters for electrical components, foils, thin films, and liquids. Compatible input adapters include a wired component test fixture, an SMD test fixture, kelvin clips and fixture, a dielectric test fixture, and a liquid test fixture.

The device is a versatile impedance analyser that can be essential in ensuring the proper functioning and quality of electronic components and circuits. It unlocks the power of electrical component analysis with ease. The analyser is made in Germany by Sciospec Scientific Instruments.
