New high-voltage, synchronous step-down DC-DC converter

Torex Semiconductor Ltd. has released a new product, the XC9702 series, a step-down DC-DC converter.

The series is a step-down DC-DC converter that attains the world's smallest class mounting area (9.4mm × 7.4mm = 69.56mm2) for 60V high-voltage operation by accommodating small peripheral components.

With an input voltage range of 4.5V to 60V, output voltage range of 2.5V to 12V, and output current of 300mA, it supports an operating ambient temperature to 125C. It provides a MODE terminal that enables the optional setting of PWM control and PWM/PFM automatic switching control, allowing noise reduction and lower power consumption by selecting different control modes. It effectively addresses heat dissipation issues of medium to high voltage LDOs in industrial equipment by efficiently outputting stable 3.3V or 5V with low ripple from unstable 24V power sources, such as in FA equipment.

Its 60V operation stops destruction even if an input voltage overshoot occurs. It also incorporates protection functions such as current limiting, overvoltage protection, Lx short-circuit protection, and thermal shutdown, ensuring safe operation even in abnormal conditions. Also, it enables power sequence adjustment with an external soft start adjustment function and power good function.

Despite its high voltage tolerance, its low power consumption adds to the increasingly stringent demands for standby power consumption reduction in recent years and to the efficiency improvement and downsizing of various industrial equipment, along with reducing the mounting area.

The package lineup includes HSOP-8N (6.2mm x 5.2mm x 1.7mm) with lead terminals and USP-10B (2.6mm x 2.9mm x 0.6mm), which is a small surface mount type that accommodates various applications.
