Switching regulator features pre-formed leads

RECOM has added a pre-formed lead option to its popular 2A switching regulator. The RECOM R-78K-2.0 series is a cost-efficient drop-in replacement for through-hole ‘78 series’ three-terminal linear regulators. The parts provide 2A-rated output and greatly improved efficiency over linear types, eradicating heatsinking and its associated costs while freeing up valuable board space.

The series is now offered with 90°, pre-formed, through-hole pins for horizontal mounting where a low profile is desired. Designated R-78K-2.0(L), the series includes fixed outputs of 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V, 5V, 9V, 12V, and 15V, all with an input voltage range up to a maximum of 36V.

The series provides a maximum case temperature of +110C, allowing an operation to +90C ambient for some variants without derating, dependent on the input voltage.

Input under-voltage and short-circuit protection is supplied, and the parts are certified to IEC/EN 62368-1 3rd edition. Parts include a three-year warranty.

“The R-78K-2.0 series now has even wider application with the formed lead option, useful for horizontal mounting when board height is restricted,” comments Matthew Dauterive, DC-DC product manager of RECOM.
