High power and accuracy are becoming increasingly important for power management in consumer electronics, computer and peripheral devices, measurement systems and industrial power control and delivery. A wide range of technology options for lower resistance values are used for these applications. While all-metal elements are the common choice for high temperature, high power, high surge, and low TCR, this technology also tends to be the most expensive and usually only provides tolerances of 1% and wider. Small electronics and low to medium power supply architectures may not require the lower resistance values or highest current carrying capacity.
Stackpole Electronics' RNCL provides high power ratings per chip size with resistance values down to 50 milliohms. It offers the high precision and stability you would expect from a thin film resistive element with tolerances down to 0.5% and TCR of 50ppm and 100ppm. This series displays a low resistance shift of less than 1% under IEC industry standard tests for short-time overload, load life, and biased humidity. Also, it has greatly higher pulse handling than typical thin film chip resistors due to proprietary materials and design.
